oh hey there!

pretty

I’m still on a break from blogging for a little bit, but I just wanted to have a vibrant photo at the top of the blog.

And, to be honest, although I am absolutely loving taking a short break, this blog is almost like my little house on the Internet, and it’s just plain weird not to be in the house for a few weeks.

So think of this as just me coming by to open the door and look around for a minute, and maybe sit down and look out the window.

annual Fall break

IMG_2336 I’d been feeling the need the last few weeks, to stop blogging for a bit. Just, I was feeling not super enthused about writing posts or sharing my life online, and also wanting to free up some of my time and have time that (imagine!) isn’t planned or has no commitments.

Then I looked back at this time last year, and this time the year before, and I realized, hey! It’s a yearly thing!

So, that’s cool. That means it’s normal, and natural. A cycle in a creative ecosystem, if you will. Not something I should overly worry about, but just let it be.

I don’t know how much time I’ll take away, and who knows, maybe I’ll pop back up sooner than I think, but at this point I’m imagining at least two weeks of not blogging.

I’m still on the other social media outlets that are linked to in the right-hand sidebar. And there is tonnes of content on this blog already, if you’re in the mood to look around!

Thanks, as always, for your support of my creative meanderings. I so appreciate it!

halloween party

happyhalloween

Today is the Halloween party at work, for the clients! Everyone is already really excited, and they haven’t even changed into their costumes yet. At noon there will be a meal, and then a dance. Here are the photos from last year’s party. I’m not dressing up, although I may wear a witch’s hat I have tucked away in a desk drawer (for emergencies). I’m excited too!

the refuge of love

twothings Going to the Collide Conference, and spending four days in Halifax last week, was such a treat. I met lots of new people, heard about all kinds of neat things happening in the design and technology sector, and dined like a king. (Like a queen?)

But coming home to Cape Breton, and to my little home in North Sydney, where my honey was waiting for me, and where I could walk in the woods, sleep in, and nap on the couch while he watched football, was the best part.

While technology may be advancing very quickly and innovative design is exciting, what really makes my soul happy is far, far older: the wisdom of Mama Nature, and the refuge of love.

collide

All the fun of yesterday is overshadowed by what happened in Ottawa, so for today I’m not going to say a whole lot.

Just going on to the workshops and meetings of the first full day of Collide!

Have a good one, friends.

ready to collide

halifax This is the view from my hotel room this morning. I’m in Halifax!

I’m here to attend a conference called Collide. I’m here on behalf of the Horizon Achievement Centre, where I’m the Youth Intern on the Database Project, although I also do miscellaneous design tasks at the Centre too, like designing the Annual Report.

I’m here with my friend Jacquie Blanchard of Pure Project Relations.

It’s pretty neat that a year ago we would both have been described as being Graphic Design students at NSCC, and now we’re proper design and tech professionals!

Anyway, a huge thanks to both our workplaces for sending us to this conference, and we’re both really excited to learn, meet, talk, laugh and generally Collide! Woot!

finding joy in mother nature

findingjoy I haven’t forgotten my four goals from last month.

Here’s a quick update:

1. Engage and don’t turn away from fear: this is ongoing, daily. More of an internal thing, to be aware of in myself, when I want to just pretend climate change isn’t real.

2. Reach out to people in power: Haven’t done this yet. But am thinking about where to start. Might start with local municipal people, just reach out and say “Hey! This is a thing that I care about, and I’m wondering what your platform is about it.”

3. Connect to Mother Earth and find joy there: This is another ongoing + daily one. But I’m finding it’s easy to just remind myself to take a deep breath, and look around me (if I’m outside) and appreciate the trees, the sky, the air.

4. Find ways to change my impact, even a little bit: Doing this! One thing is I’m sharing a ride to yoga now. It’s only a short drive, but hey. It counts.

Is Climate Change something that you think about? Do you have tips or tricks?
